Neighborhood Cleanup – October 17

The South Fairmount Community Council (SFCC) and Keep Cincinnati Beautiful (KCB) are teaming up for a big pre-fall cleanup, and it’s right around the corner. On Saturday, October 17 at 9:30am, volunteers will meet up at the Shadwell Park shelter (corner of Grand and Queen City). The focus will be to get rid of litter on public steps and sidewalks around the area. To make the job as easy as possible, SFCC and KCB are providing tools and a SuperCan. Donuts, coffee and juice are available for volunteers. We hope you’ll join us and bring a friend! Questions? Contact

A Note from the Community Council President

May has drawn to a close and the school year has ended for the Cincinnati School District. I am sure most people are looking at their summer schedule and plan- ning some family time or trips. On a related note the South Fairmount Council will not hold a meeting in July. We will resume our regularly scheduled meetings in August.

Exciting things are happening at Findlay Market. Several new vendors are opening and the friends of Findlay Market are planning to address our meeting in August to share the news and ask about our ideas to improve the market experience.

The new District 3 Headquarters in opening soon. There will be grand opening on June 25 so mark your calendars for this exciting event.

Jim Casey, SFCC President

MSD Looking for Old Photos of South Fairmount

We need your help! MSD is working on educational signage to be placed along the walkways for the Lick Run Valley Conveyance System (VCS) in South Fairmount. Some of the signage will be dedicated to South Fairmount’s history.

If you have old photos of South Fairmount dating from the 1800s to mid-1900s, we would love to borrow them for potential inclusion in the signage.

We will scan them and return them to you promptly. You will also receive credit for the photo on the signage. Please contact MSD Customer Service at (513) 557-3594 or

MSD Finishing Up Construction Work, New Project to Start This Summer

The Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati (MSD) is finishing up construction work on two of its Lick Run storm sewer projects on Queen City Avenue and Harrison/Westwood avenues near the viaduct.

The next Lick Run project – storm sewers on Sunset Avenue, Rapid Run Pike, Guerley Road and Sunset Lane – is scheduled to start this summer.

Queen City Avenue Phase 1 Project

MSD’s Queen City Avenue project (between the Bypass and Sunset) should be complete by June, pending weather and the contractor’s schedule.

However, traffic on eastbound (inbound) Queen City Avenue will still experience temporary lane closures in this area for several more months. Duke Energy will be installing a new gas main between Sunset and Wyoming avenues during the months of May/June. Following that work, the Cincinnati Department of Transportation and Engineering (CDOTE) will repave the eastbound (inbound) lanes between Sunset and Wyoming.

Harrison Avenue Phase B Project

MSD’s Harrison Avenue Phase B project (Harrison, Westwood and Moellering avenues in vicinity of Western Hills Viaduct) should be complete by June, pending weather and the contractor’s schedule.

Historic Photos of South Fairmount

We came across some of these photos on the Cincinnati Traction History website. There are several more in the Fairmount and Westwood collection in addition to historic photographs of other parts of the city.
